2018 Benito De Soto Tempranillo

Tomfoolery Wines

$69.00 Sale price

Barill Mas Grande - Barossa Valley

Galacian pirate Benito De Soto was the notorious captain of the Burla Negra, the last of the great ships to plunder the Atlantic. Many a sailor's heart sank in fear at the sight of her dark sails. The inspiration for this wine was fleeced through voyage and vintage in the far vineyards of Benito’s Galacian homeland.

The estate grown Tempranillo is 50% free run and 50% pressings, crafted in a minimalistic approach. Matured in one new Puncheon for 42 months and further bottle aged for another 18 months. The reward for patience is a Tempranillo with outstanding complexity and structure.

Winemakers Notes
I was lucky enough to complete a Vintage in Spain after I finished up at Rockford Wines and instantly fell in love with this amazing variety. It’s super unique and there’s nothing really like it.

This wine is testament to the quality of the 5½ acre vineyard here on our property which is one of the oldest Tempranillo blocks in the Barossa. It’s not for the faint hearted but oozes class.

Winemaking: 36 months in oak and 24 month maturation in bottle

Production: 666 Bottles
